Eldorado is a name synonymous with potential and discovery – and that’s the challenge that faced Eldorado Gold, a global mining, development and exploration company, as they sought a pioneering way to consistently action their sustainability system across distributed teams.
Teams needed a way to translate an in-depth framework into practical and applicable insight. Enter BrightCarbon with a learning solution to help learners see how SIMS (the central Sustainability Integrated Management System) fits into what each employee does day in, day out, regardless of where they are.
The challenge
With a robust framework already in place, the challenge centred on making it understandable and applicable to a wide group of dispersed learners.
The questions we had to ask were:
- What happens when a critical framework exists, but people don’t fully understand how to apply it?
- How do you bring consistency to something as complex as sustainability across multiple sites, roles, and regions?
- And how do you communicate a comprehensive system like SIMS to make it feel practical for employees in their day-to-day work?

Strategy
SIMS elegantly brings together a lot of complex moving parts, but when you’re down in the details every day, it can be hard to get a sense of how everything fits together.
Given that, we designed the module to:
- Break content into short, structured lessons learners can complete in stages
- Reinforce key ideas through regular check-ins and practice
- Use realistic, role-based scenarios to anchor learning in real work
- Use visual storytelling to show how different parts of SIMS connect

Outcome
We took a two tier approach to the content:
- First teaching the core concepts through clear, easy-to-parse visuals to enable users to build a clear picture of how the system works and how the pieces connect.
- Then focusing on application. Short videos introduce key ideas, and interactive scenarios show how those ideas play out in real situations. Learners are asked to make decisions, see the outcomes, and reflect on what it means for their role.
The result is a single, consistent way of understanding SIMS across the organisation. And importantly, it reinforces a sense of ownership: sustainability that’s not just a framework, but something everyone actively contributes to.
