Creating learning, whether in-house or with a vendor, is always going to be risky. The amount of time it takes to create a course, push it live, and deploy it, means you’ll be waiting months (maybe even longer) to test the effectiveness of your investment. And even when your training is out in the wild with learners, relying on surveys and user feedback can sometimes prove a lengthy and unreliable process.

This is why we’ve developed a scorecard for quickly pulse checking a course you’re working on, or evaluating multiple courses to try and identify weak areas.

The metrics are grouped around three key areas:

  • Effort: Though a lot of investment goes into the overall effort and cost of a piece of eLearning, offsetting the number of stakeholders against development time will give you a reliable benchmark.
  • Efficacy: How good is your learning at motivating learners and holding their attention? Assessing for overall relevance and retention enables you to estimate how much of a lasting impact your content has on learners.
  • Engagement: Even if your content has been structured to keep retrieval high, if you’re not doing enough to connect emotionally with your learner, it might not be having the impact you want it to. This is why our last category looks at how much you’re connecting with your learner emotionally, and through memory-enhancing challenges.
